  • Hiking In Forest

Grab your hiking boots and spend time in the mountains of Snowmass!

Stay on Snowmass Mountain or adventure to more trails in the Roaring Fork Valley.

A few of our favorites include:

Crater Lake Trail
Located at the base of the Maroon Bells, The Crater Lake Trail is a 3.8 mile hike from the Maroon Lake.  You’ll want to get an early start to avoid crowds and get one of the coveted parking spots.  If you don’t make it in time to drive, you’ll take a bus from Highlands Ski Area.

Ditch Trail
This easy trail is perfect for all levels and ages.  The 1.7 mile trail keeps you in Snowmass Village.  For a little extra hiking, take the Sky Cab Gondola from the Snowmass Base Village to the Snowmass Mall and hike the Nature Trail to the Ditch Trail.

Rim Trail
This intermediate hike is referred to in two sections, North Rim Trail and South Rim Trail.  The 7.6 mile trail has spectacular views of Snowmass Village and the Elk Range.  The Rim Trail South includes a connector to “Spiral Point” where there is a yin-and-yang platform looking to Capitol Peak and Old Snowmass Village.

Government Trail
A moderate/intermediate hike suitable for hikers, bikers, and runners.  The 9.8 miles hike traverses both Buttermilk Ski Area and Snowmass Ski Area.  Have someone drop of you off at the Recreation Center on Maroon Creek Road and make your way back to Snowmass.

Contact the Snowmass Mountain Lodging Concierge for maps and information on hiking and other suggested trails.  Remember to wear sunscreen and bring water, snacks, and rain gear for any adventure in Colorado!
