Great Ways to Enjoy Fall Colors in Snowmass

We’re excited to report that Snowmass was voted one of America’s Best Towns for Fall Colors by Travel + Leisure in 2014! How about planning a trip to view the stunning Snowmass colors this fall? It’s easy to reserve a hotel or condo with Snowmass Hospitality.

Here are a few ways to enjoy the spectacular fall displays in Snowmass Village.

Hiking
Fill a water bottle and pack a lunch because once in the high country, you’ll want to make a day of it. With golden Aspen leaves, crimson scrub oak and deep green spruce trees, the colors explode as you gaze into the crystal blue sky. Here are some Snowmass trails that will wow leaf peepers of any age: Ditch Trail, Stark’s Powerline Trail and Viewline Trail.

Biking
In recent years, Snowmass has developed new bike trails to appeal to every level of cyclist. These trails range from the expert freeride bikers to beginning recreationalists: Valhalla, Vapor, Tom Blake Trail and the Government Trail. For incredible fall colors, take the Elk Camp Gondola and Elk Camp Lift to access 50 miles of biking paths with breathtaking mountain vistas.

Snowmass Balloon Festival
There’s nothing better than watching colorful hot air balloons rise into a cobalt sky against dark fir and golden aspen forests. Come to Snowmass September 18-20 to watch 30 balloon pilots compete in contests of skill and then light up Fanny Hill with the Saturday Evening Glow.

Snowmass Wine Festival
Soak in the colors of the season while enjoying a glass of the grape, tasty bites and enticing jazz music. Try out new wines at the Grand Tasting event, bid on silent auction vacation packages and peruse the vintage cars at the Motoring Classic. September 18 & 19

Jeep Tours
Get into beautiful and remote alpine settings by taking a guided Jeep Tour into the high country. Wildflower meadows, wilderness areas and snowcapped peaks await your journey into the Elk Range. Be on the lookout for local wildlife—deer, elk, marmot, bear, foxes and red-tailed hawks make their home in this dramatic valley.

Horseback Riding
Nothing says “Wild West” like a horseback ride into the Snowmass Mountains. View fields of wildflowers, babbling brooks and towering spruce forests from the perspective on your gentle steed. One hour to full day excursions to overnight pack trips allow schedule flexibility for a variety of cowboys and cowgirls.

Snowmass Events
The renowned Jazz Aspen Labor Day Snowmass Festival grooves with acts like Hozier, Jimmy Cliff, The Fray and Lenny Kravitz. It’s the perfect way to kick off the fall season as the aspen leaves turn from green to gold. Put your gym workouts to the test by doing the Tough Mudder or the Salomon Golden Leaf Half Marathon. Both athletic events take place in the autumnal beauty of Snowmass.
